I was asked some questions the other day at the employment agency where I work. Does anyone happen to know where I can find the correct figures?
What percentage of the population is blind from birth?
What percentage of the population is blind by the time they reach 18?
What percentage of the total population is blind?
And the same questions again, substituting VI for blind.
That is retarded, what are you trying to do?
If you just went blind, how are you suppose to know?
But I want to know myself, so.
Hey it was a serious queston, but I'm not expecting everyone to know the answer; after all, I didn't. They want the info to help monitor their equal opportunities policy.
Arden's right. I don't have the answers either, and I've been blind my whole life. But just because one fits into a demographic doesn't automagically mean they have all the demographic data ...
Your question is one I've wondered a long time. Blind from birth is an extremely small minority now, though blind by accident or injury is on the rise right now because of IED (Improvised Explosive Devices), which our troops in Afghanistan and Iraq have been subjected to countless times. The concussions from the blasts cause internal head injuries for which I lack the necessary medical training to explain but maybe @Spongebob can enlighten.
Is it possible NLS could give you some statistics?
These are really good questions Arden.
